Her estate consisted of 175 acres and personal property valued at $1748.00. In addition to bequests, to her sister Alice Hartline Bartsch, and to her nieces and nephew, her will provided for a donation of $100.00 to Casper Cemetery, and for the erection of tombstones on her grave and the adjoining graves of her brother Walter and sister Debbie. That her executor carried out her wishes is shown by the fact that the three are buried on the same lot with the same kind of stones.

He eventually pastored the Highway Church of God near Fyffe, Alabama for several years and retired there, living a short distance away. After retirement, he continued to travel and preach the Word of God. His youngest daughter Nellie lived at home for many years.

I once asked him how he traveled and he said "by air." Air ye going my way? He was saying that he usually traveled by hitchhiking. One of his grand daughters said that he once preached to the patients waiting in a doctor's office. He told them he was not trying to convert them to his denomination. He said, "if you're a Methodist, be the best Methodist you can be, if your Baptist, be the best Baptist you can be," etc.

John died at home on March 18, 1967 and was buried at Highway Church of God cemetery. Betty died on December 6, 1968, and is buried beside John.
