Maggie Alma Hartline (1)  A
(1892-1973)

Maggie Alma Hartline was born in Lyerly, Georgia, October 28, 1892, a daughter of Andrew Hilmon and Mellie Ann Baugh Hartline.
The family moved to Texas when Maggie was five, about 1897, and they settled between Red Oak and Rocket, Texas.  Maggie and the other children walked three miles to school at Rocket, then the next year, three miles to Red Oak, until they moved to somewhere north of Red Oak and went to a country school called Bear Creek.  Then they moved to Allen, Texas, north of Dallas where they had to pay $1.25 per month to go to school.
Maggie married at twenty-two, to Walter N. Shatley, born August 15, 1892, and they had the following children:

Arlice Henry, born March 29, 1915.
Homer Alvin, born December 18, 1916.
Gwendolyn Lucille, born April 18, 1919.
Clyde Andrew, born May 25, 1920.
Thelma Jeanette, born May 5, 1922, married Luther Story.
Loise Frances, born February 12, 1924.
Walter Price, born January 15, 1926.
Alma Lue, born November 11, 1927, married Dick Conine.
Alta Sue, born November 11, 1927, married Ken Duncan.
Virginia Faye, born December 9, 1929.
   J. V., born, January 26, 1932.
Minnie Oneta, born February 14, 1937, married Stephens.

Maggie had been interested in the genealogy of the Hartline family for many years.  She wrote numerous letters to gather information.  It is through her efforts and those of Clarence Hartline of Pomona, California that we obtained most of the information on the Hartlines who live in the western U.S., mostly descendants of Robert Hilmon Hartline.  Although Maggie and Clarence did not get to see the finished book, we did share much of the early family history with them.
Maggie's husband Walter died October 7, 1971, from a heart attack and Maggie died July 11, 1973.
I had a lot of correspondence with Maggie and grew to lover her greatly, (2) as she was a very loving peerson.  The fine moreal attitudes and Christian virtue exhibited by her children attest to Maggie's faith in God.
