"Hartlines in America,” is a genealogy work with all the Hartline, Hartlein and Hertlein family history collected since 1970. This site if fully indexed, and contains write-ups of over 540 heads of household, including wifes and children, with as much information as we have found on each. I spent over 40 years collecting material and a lot of hours posting it. I think it is a great FREE resource.
If you wish to know if your family is included, check the "LocatorList" to see if your ancestors are listed.

Thank you for the work that you've done to compile this work. It answers a lot of questions for me that couldn't or wouldn't be answered by those who came before me. Keep up the good work!

My father, Stuart R. Calkins was born Stuart Russel Hartline in Lyons, Colorado in 1899. His mother died giving him birth and his father gave him up for adoption to the Calkins. He had several brothers. Unfortunately I don't know much about any of them...His real father's name was D. Hartline and his mothers name was Ella. I have tried to find out more but the court house in Lyons burned down years ago and lost all birth records. If anyone has any info on my ancestors, I would really love to hear from them....Thanks

Seeing my father (Conley Bruce Hartline) listed under my grandpa's name (Leonard Sylvania Hartline) was exciting, but tracing all the way back to Nikolaus Herdlien was priceless. I have always wondered exactly where the bloodlines originated. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into this site, which enlightens all Hartlines. I would love to know how to add myself and my sister to the site. Sincerely, LeeAnna Hartline Blackwood

Just searching around and noticed the site. I have played football for Ohio State University for the past 4 years but recently decided to enter the NFL draft. Wish there was more information about Hartlines past 1933...

My lineage to the Hartlines is from my maternal grandmother Mary Wagner Hartline Yeigh. Her brother was the Rev.Paul Hartline. I wasn't sure if you were aware that Uncle Paul passed away on Jan.1,2009 at the age of 99yrs. There is a web site with the obit and a guest book. Just google Rev.Paul Hartline. Respectfully, Jackie Stephens

I graduated from SIU Carbondale in 1973. Walking the railroad tracks in Union County sometime before graduation, my friend and I came across a "diary" with notations in it from Lizzie Hartline. Her name remains with me so many years later. About 10 years after graduation from college, I came across an old civil war map showing Union County and the Hartline Farm. The farm was located at or near the place on the tracks that my buddy and I were walking that day. To this day I continue to wonder who Lizzie Hartline is or was. Any information as to this individual would be most appreciated. I am 57 now. By her writing and penmanship at that time, I would guess Lizzie would have been 10 yoa around 1973. Just another mystery that has stayed with me for all of these years.

I purchased your book in the early 1980's. I changed jobs and become so busy I gave up genealogy until I retired. I am now back into research and am keying information into Ancestry.com. Have been working on the Hartlines from your book and Ancestry. Isn't the internet great for research?
